For its Spring/Summer season adidas Originals teamed up with Star Wars for a memorable collection of footwear and apparel. Although the theme has been used in the world of fashion already, this new collection seamlessly fuses inspiration from legendary Star Wars characters and scenes with iconic adidas Originals silhouettes. The pieces begin to hit all adidas Originals stores and other select retailers in January 2010 while a closer look into the lineup will soon be made available.

Car manufacturers Volkswagen have launched a new project – the fun theory – which explores the idea of changing peoples’ behaviour for the better by making things more fun to do. This is achieved through various interactive installations in public places, such persuading people to choose the stairs over the escelator, by turning the stairs into a giant, working piano keyboard. Which is undeniably fun.

Here is a description of the project from FormFiftyFive:

Volkswagen has launched a website – the fun theory dedicated to the thought that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour for the better. As part of this interesting initiative they have commissioned several interactive pieces that challenge the way people connect with everyday things. The site currently features piano stairs that encourage people to take the stairs instead of the escalator by playing notes when each step is used (like the floor piano in the film BIG). The world’s deepest bin, which plays a sound effect when rubbish is dropped into it and a bottle bank arcade machine. They are also taking submissions for future projects that find fun ways to change behaviour and are offering a 2500 Euro prize.

This incredible video — taken from of a skier’s point-of-view camera as he goes through an avalanche and subsequent rescue — is doing the rounds of the internet just now. More from The Guardian:

The video captures a 1,500-foot fall in little over 20 seconds. The camera goes crazy, flickering from blue to white to black and then settles back to a blue. That is all the viewer sees for the next four minutes or so, but the sound of heavy breathing with the occasional whimper is clearly audible as the skier lies buried under snow.

Chappy, who posted the video of the skier on the site, writes: “In the time that he’s buried, you can hear his breathing already accelerate. The ruffling noise back and forth is his chest rising and falling and the noise that his jacket makes. The intermittent whimpering noise you hear is him trying to swallow and get some air since the avalung [a breathing device which is used to prolong the supply of oxygen for avalanche victims by recycling air] wasn’t fully in his mouth and instead just to the corner of his mouth.”

Remarkably the skier survived and didn’t even break a bone. Huzzah!

Daniel Jones, founder of the Jedi religion inspired by the Star Wars films, has accused Tesco of discrimination after they demanded he remove his hood while shopping in the store. Jones claims it is part of his religious obligation to wear a hood, and said he was “humiliated and victimised” by Tesco for his religious beliefs.

“They said: ‘Take it off’, and I said: ‘No, its part of my religion. It’s part of my religious right.’ I gave them a Jedi church business card.

“They weren’t listening to me and were rude. They had three people around me. It was intimidating.” Jones, who has made an official complaint to Tesco, is considering a boycott of the store and is seeking legal advice.

Tesco said: “He hasn’t been banned. Jedis are very welcome to shop in our stores although we would ask them to remove their hoods.

“Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Luke Skywalker all appeared hoodless without ever going over to the Dark Side and we are only aware of the Emperor as one who never removed his hood.

“If Jedi walk around our stores with their hoods on, they’ll miss lots of special offers.”

Looks like a pretty cool idea, you wear a ring, which holds your business card information. When you meet another person with the same ring, the information is swapped, this allows you to gather many business cards and browse through them with ease.

Fingers crossed there will be a similar iPhone app in the future, i’d like that!
